Cavero Secure has joined the GSMA

As we continue to expand our experience and expertise in quantum technology, trust, and PQC, we are continually looking for ways to scale and bring technologies like CaveroCore to as wide an audience as possible. And with Q-Day looming, we recognise that collaboration and the sharing of ideas is increasingly important for building a quantum-safe future.
That’s why we’re delighted to announce that Cavero Secure has joined the GSMA, the industry body representing mobile operators and the wider telecoms ecosystem worldwide.
After joining ETSI – the European Telecommunications Standards Institute - earlier this year, this represents another significant step forward for Cavero Secure. We look forward to leading our unique blend of people and technology to the GSMA’s mission to shape the future of connectivity.
The GSMA and quantum cryptography
Quantum computing poses a long-term threat to the cryptography that currently secures mobile networks and IoT devices.
Research from GSMA Intelligence – the research and consulting arm of the GSMA - estimates that just 8% of the 24 billion IoT devices in active use today are quantum safe. An overwhelming majority will therefore be exposed as quantum capabilities advance – and that number will only grow as the global IoT base is projected to reach 37 billion devices by 2030.
The GSMA’s work spans practical, hands-on initiatives:
- Established the Post Quantum Telco Network Task Force, in collaboration with IBM and Vodafone, to help operators and the wider supply chain plan and implement post-quantum cryptography (PQC) across both terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks.
- Extending specifications like remote SIM provisioning to support post-quantum algorithms.
- Developing ‘cryptography bill of materials tooling’ so operators can map where cryptography is used across their networks.
- Testing NIST-standardised algorithms such as ML-KEM and ML-DSA on real network infrastructure.
Recent demonstrations, including quantum-safe SIM provisioning shown live at Mobile World Congress Shanghai, show a clear shift in industry intent from planning to active implementation.
Why have we joined?
Our technology and strategic focus align perfectly with the GSMA’s focus on constrained devices like SIM cards, IoT sensors and legacy hardware, and anywhere else where conventional post-quantum algorithms are too resource-intensive to run.
By joining the GSMA, we can connect directly with the operators, device manufacturers, and technology partners driving quantum-safe migration across the telecoms industry. This gives us a seat at the table as new standards and specifications take shape, to ensure they are as strong as possible when it comes to the job of protecting organisations, governments, citizens, and customers. We are particularly looking forward to joining the Post-Quantum Telco Network Task Force to support its activities and aims.
Time is of the essence. So many IoT devices are still quantum-vulnerable and long deployment lifespans mean today’s decisions will still matter in a decade. We see GSMA membership as a way to contribute our expertise in lightweight, software-based cryptography to an industry-wide problem, and to help ensure that quantum-safe security is achievable even on the smallest, most constrained devices.
