History

How Cavero Secure came to be

Every part of modern life - payment, power, communication, and soon the AI agents acting on our behalf - rests on the assumption that the thing on the other end is what it claims to be. Quantum computing, industrialised fraud, and a world of devices never designed to defend themselves are attacking that assumption. Cavero Secure exists to make trust provable: born into every device and agent at creation, and verified every moment after. That's not an ambition for the distant future. It's running on live hardware today. A spin-out from the University of Leeds, we grew from a simple but consequential discovery in quantum information research: two parties can arrive at the same cryptographic key without ever exchanging it - no certificates, no stored secrets, nothing for an attacker to intercept or steal. While that discovery initially led to a novel method of post-quantum key exchange, it also prompted a rethinking of how cryptographic trust and identity are defined and intertwined.

What started as an insight into the mathematics of correlated information is now a cryptographic engine protecting the devices, agents, and identities the modern world depends on


We set out to solve the problems the rest of the industry has learned to work around:

  • Post-quantum cryptography is too large to work on constrained devices such as SIMs, sensors and microcontrollers.
  • Trust and identity for these devices boil down to a secret that is often static and hard-coded into the device.

CaveroKEX™

CaveroKEX™ is Cavero Secure's patented post-quantum key exchange. Tuned for optimal computation, it performs with around half of the computational requirements as ML-KEM at an equivalent parameter set; tuned for minimum footprint it runs in as little as 2.1KB of RAM*. Neither party ever transmits the key: both derive it, so there is no secret in flight to intercept and no static credential left on the device to steal

CaveroCTX™

Continuous trust and identity verification for the life of every device, agent and connection. CaveroCTX™ is Cavero Secure's patented continuous verification protocol. Where conventional security checks identity once and assumes it ever after, CaveroCTX™ re-proves it with every exchange, building an unbroken, verifiable history from the moment of genesis onward. A clone or hijacked device cannot keep pace — the fork is exposed as soon as its history diverges, and trust is withdrawn before harm is done. And because the credential is re-derived with every exchange, it never sits still long enough to steal

Cavero Secure exists to solve problems that have resisted the conventional cybersecurity toolkit: giving autonomous AI agents identities they can prove; letting defence and critical-infrastructure equipment ship dormant and activate securely in the field; shutting down SIM swap fraud at the network level; and bringing genuine post-quantum protection to hardware too constrained for anything else. Crucially, with our entire cryptographic stack developed and owned in the UK, Cavero Secure offers something increasingly rare: sovereign security for critical services, free of third-party dependencies, for governments and enterprises who need to know exactly whose mathematics they are trusting.

Who created Cavero Secure?

Our founders

Two scientists founded Cavero Secure, believing physics, not patches, would solve the hardest problems in security. Professor Ben Varcoe, Co-Founder and Chief Cryptographer, is Professor of Quantum Information at the University of Leeds. His research into the physics of information underpins Cavero's key exchange - and he leads the cryptography that keeps Cavero years ahead of the field. Dr Frey Wilson, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, leads the engineering that turns that science into deployable security - from the mathematics of the protocols to code compact enough to run on a SIM card. Together with a team of some of the world's leading minds in cryptography, security, and system engineering, they are building the trust layer for what comes next.

    I am responsible for analysing and developing the cryptography that powers CaveroCore and our other technologies. I hold a MSc in computer science, and my research interests include PQC, zero-knowledge proofs, hash functions and lightweight cryptography.
